COLLAGES

ANALOG

From fragmentation to visual narrative.

Artist
Maureen Cox Pentz

My work begins with the deconstruction of the image and mixing it with symbolic elements, creating a psychological narrative.  My technique seeks to highlight the process, creating a fusion between the audiovisual and the artisanal in search of a place which is in the process itself. There is no definite, but rather a void, which acts as a place in which movements are muted.

My faith in the end product is blind, as it is not based on a previously agreed upon process or prior experiences.  Rather, it is based on the random mechanical motions of the work.  The results always lead to a place beyond—a dystopian place which is understood through the perception of others in the place from where they are viewing the work.

ABOUT ME

Santiago; Chile

After my first degree in Audiovisual Communication, I worked in art direction, film post-production and as a photography assistant.

My interest in different forms of expressions make me participate in several courses of  photography, contemporary dance, theatre, drawing, sculpting, art history, and film and psychoanalysis cycles, all of which together with  my passion for music, have shaped my sense of expression.

With this rich backdrop, I subsequently decided to pursue post graduate studies in Clinical Psychology and Art Therapy, after graduate, as a Psychologist, I did work with adults and adolescents.

At present, I dedicate myself to analog collage as an autodidact, which I have enriched with a Contemporary Collage course at Central Saint Martins University of Arts, London.

I recently achieved first place in the “Campeonato Mundial de Collage y Coloquio Visual del fin del mundo” organized by Finnis Terrae University of Chile.

I have been invited to donate part of my work to the Chilean National Archives.
