_ABOUT
Contemporary, self-taught collagist Maureen Cox carefully creates and manipulates abstract and surrealist pieces in the language of analog collage. Through her optics, she gives life to visual narratives with paper as her tool, manifesting new perspectives about the world, which become complete in the interpretive space of the beholder.

Magazines and newspapers, both new and old, combined with a wide array of sources, including photographs, image banks and AI generated prints, fabrics, papers, inks, and acrylics merge during creation into a one-of-a-kind work of art. These collages are finely and meticulously handcut or torn, assembled, and pasted onto a paper based support.
_STATEMENT
My work begins with the deconstruction of images. I fragment, mix, and displace elements to createn arratives in which the psyche emerges from the unconscious. Each collage becomes a space where the visible and the symbolic meet, revealing what cannot be spoken directly.
My technique highlights the process itself: the cut, the gesture, the layering, and the rupture. I work between the artisanal and the digital, between the editorial and the intimate, searching for a territory that belongs fully to neither. I am drawn to that threshold a space where the image has not yet taken its final form.

I do not pursue a predetermined outcome. My trust lies in what appears through the act of making: accidental associations, combinations that reveal themselves, the mechanical yet intuitive movements of the process. The work defines itself in that transition, in that zone where identity fragments and recomposes again and again.
My collages function as broken archives, traces that rebuild themselves in each image. I am not looking for a single or definitive image; I seek a space where what escapes from order, linearity, and explanation can continue insisting.

_BIO
My interest in photography, contemporary dance, theater, drawing, sculpting and art history, intertwines with a devotion for film and psychoanalysis. Having received an undergraduate degree in Audiovisual Communication, I worked in art direction, in film post-production, and as a photography assistant. Subsequently I continued my studies and earned a degree in Psychology, a master’s in Clinical Psychology and a certificate in Art Therapy.

At present, I am devoted to my self-taught brand of analog collage, which I have enriched with a Contemporary Collage course at Central Saint Martins University of Arts, London. I recently obtained first place at the Campeonato Mundial de Collage y Coloquio Visual del Fin del Mundo (World Collage Championship and Visual Colloquium at the End of the World), organized by Finis Terrae University, in Chile.
During November 2025, a selection of my work, under the name “El Silencio No Obedece”, was exhibited at the Centro Cultural Las Condes, Santiago, Chile.
